Step Up to the Podium — Anyone Can Conduct!
Conduct Us is a new interactive project where a prepared ensemble sets up in a public space and invites anyone passing by to step up and conduct them. Wave your arms faster — the music speeds up. Make big gestures — it gets louder. It's playful, surprising, and unforgettable.
How It Works
- A prepared ensemble (orchestra, band, or chamber group) sets up in a public space
- A podium and baton are placed front and center with an inviting sign
- Passersby are invited to step up and conduct the musicians
- The ensemble follows the conductor's gestures — fast, slow, loud, quiet
- Every performance is completely unique
Why Get Involved?
- 🪄 Magical experience for first-time conductors of all ages
- 📱 Creates incredibly shareable video content for social media
- 🎭 Inspired by Improv Everywhere's Charlie Todd — conceived as a memorial to Mark Green
- 🎪 One of the most visually engaging national projects
Who Can Participate?
- Musicians: Join or organize an ensemble willing to follow untrained conductors
- Everyone else: Just walk up and wave your arms — the orchestra will follow!
- Works with ensembles from a quartet to a full orchestra
