About Make Music Vermont
Make Music Vermont is the statewide celebration of Make Music Day β an annual, global festival held every June 21st, the summer solstice. On this one day, musicians of every level and genre take to public spaces to share free, live music with their communities.
A Global Tradition
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as FΓͺte de la Musique β a simple idea that on the longest day of the year, music should fill the streets. What started in Paris has grown into a worldwide movement, now celebrated in over 1,000 cities across 120+ countries on every continent.
Make Music Vermont proudly joins this global tradition, connecting Green Mountain musicians and communities to a celebration that spans the world.
Our Story
Make Music Vermont has been bringing music to communities across the state for over a decade. Originally coordinated by Big Heavy World, Vermont's independent volunteer-run music office, the event has grown from a handful of performances to dozens of musicians in communities statewide.
Beginning in 2026, statewide coordination of Make Music Vermont has transitioned to a new team led by Chandler Center for the Arts and The Underground, in partnership with community organizers across Vermont. We're committed to expanding participation, supporting local chapters, and making June 21st the most musical day of the year.
